Happy Leslie Day: free mp3's!
April 13th 2011 would have been the 100th birthday of Don Leslie, inventor of the infamous Leslie speaker. As a tribute, Euro Cinema gave away free Leslie-heavy mp3's to anyone who tweeted about "Happy Leslie Day" We were joined by Rare Groove Orchestra, Sven Hammond Soul and Lefties Soul Connection. Radio6.nl also joined the party with a special theme day, a Leslie top 10 and a live Hammond/Leslie battle featuring our own Rob Schepens against Sven Figee and Rob Mostert. Thanks so much to Radio6, Guuz, Sven Figee, Rare Groove Orchestra, Lefties Soul Connection and Rob Mostert for helping make this happen!

About Don Leslie

Don Leslie was the inventor of the rotating Leslie speaker. His invention turned the hammond organ into the grunting, screaming beast we know and love today. Without Don, there would be no Jack McDuff, no Jimmy Smith, no Jimmy McGriff, and certainly no hammond funk as we know it today.
So as a tribute to his legacy, we'll be celebrating Leslie's 100th birthday by giving away a free mp3 of one of our Leslie-laden tracks and so do a few of our friends. Also, april 15 we will play a special "Tribute to Don Leslie" set at SJU Utrecht, with the Rundfunk DJ's spinning Leslie-heavy tracks.
On the right: the Leslie used on Euro Cinema's "Ten-4!" album.
